A rich store of memories of childhood play came to the fore in Don’t Tell. The project involved a series of creative storytelling workshops engaging diverse groups of women, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, as part of program activities in 2013 and 2014. Women recalled childhood chants, tongue-twisters and songs in their mother tongues, as well as storytelling practices and traditions, including shadow play. This led to a number of lively storytelling exchanges between a group of immigrant, refugee and Aboriginal women and children as part of the program. It also led to the production by a small group of Aboriginal women Elder’s of a shadow puppet theatre play based on an Elder’s childhood story of their family pet pig. CACD artists were Therese Quinn, Denise Thomas and Lucia Parrella.
