THE CUP AND THE CANARY

Celebrating Wollongong women’s stories of friendship, courage and resilience across cultures and generations, The Cup and the Canary was a site-based multi-media installation staged at Wollongong Town Hall in March 2012. This production involved a choreographed enactment of women’s daily rituals of tea and coffee drinking across cultures as part of a multi-media installation combining film, visual and sculptural work, and sound. Co-produced and presented by community artists and participants, The Cup and the Canary was the culmination of program activities involving multi-arts based creative storytelling engagements with diverse groups of women, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, during 2011. CACD artists were Therese Quinn, Lucia Parrella, Denise Thomas, Ana Wong-Perera, and Mindy West.
